South Metro DFL Senior Caucus

Three years ago a number of DFL Senior Caucus members started a monthly lunch and information meeting in the south metro area. As time passed, we outgrew two venues and gained chapter status.

Today we meet at the Pizza Ranch on Pilot Knob Road in Apple Valley. Our meetings are each second Wednesday of the month. Meetings are preceded by executive board at 11:00 a.m. Our membership meeting starts with Pizza Ranch’s lunch buffet at 12:00 and continues with presentations. We do not endorse

After retiring my thoughts were--now what! Well for me it has been AAUW (American Association of University Women). Over five years ago I joined the St. Paul Branch which meets every Tuesday from Sept through mid May. The St. Paul Branch was founded 101 years ago to support higher education for women and girls. The mission of the organization is to advance equity for women and girls through advocacy, education, philanthropy, and research.

Over 50 years ago, the ladies purchased a house and

Retired WBL Teacher on a MIssion

Retired WBL teacher Jerry Ratliff flew on an Air Force Reserve Hercules plane for Educators day on

April 13th. The flight included being in the cockpit as the plane flew up the North Shore towards

Canada. Watching the ramp door open over Split Rock LIghthouse was spectacular. This ramp is used

for supply drops and yet the plane is also used to transport injured a nd deceased soldiers during war.

The flight was exciting, but very loud even when using earplugs. Mr. Ratliff retired from WBL schools

I started volunteering for the American Red Cross a few years before I retired. I became a member of the Disaster Assistance Team. The primary duties involve meeting with families immediately after a fire had damaged or destroyed their home. We provide assistance to make sure they have a place to stay, clothes to wear, and food. This often occurs even as smoke still rises from the embers and the firefighters are still pouring water to douse the last of the threats.

It is rewarding on so many levels to be the one who can make the worst of days a little better and provide the first steps to
