                                                                     Education Minnesota Retired Mission Statement

 

  • Provide an easy transition between retired educators and their new professional organization and colleagues; 
  • Assist in the transition from active, paid work to meaningful retirement;
  • Prepare our members for and provide support and assistance, through group programs and individual assistance, regarding normal and predictable changes in their lives pertaining to health, social status, spouses and other social relations, and other retirement concerns; 
  • Promote and join with other groups and coalitions which can provide assistance, counseling, and benefits for our members on an individual or group basis; 
  • Provide opportunities for fellowship, travel, lifetime learning and mutual support; 
  • Publicize to our members the availability of economic services and products as recommended by ESI, AFT and NEA; 
  • Work for legislation which provides economic security for retired educators, such as pensions, annuities, social security, health benefits, and fair taxation;
  • Enlist the support of our members and other citizens to strengthen the commitment to excellence in public education at all levels; 
  • Support legislation and candidates that promote and assist public education; 
  • Develop and continue to record the history of public education via the Minnesota History Center and the AFL-CIO Labor Interpretive Center; and 
  • Support the aims, goals, and objectives of Education Minnesota, Education Minnesota Retired, NEA, AFT, and the AFL-CIO. 
  • Be an advocate for human, civil, and economic rights for all.
