2013 Retired Fall Conference

The 2013 Education Minnesota Fall Conference was held September 9-11 at Mystic Lake Casino and Hotel in Prior Lake. Forty+ individuals attended the conference in anticipation of good sessions, good entertainment, good food , and a great time with fellow retirees.  This year's fall conference did not

EDUCATION MINNESOTA RETIRED FALL BREAKFAST

The Education Minnesota Retired Fall Breakfast was held on October 20, 2022 at the St. Paul River Center Convention Center.  Approximately 35 individuals attended and enjoyed a delightful breakfast.  As of this writing on October 20, there are 19 days until the mid-term elections.  AND…EVERY ELECTION IS THE MOST IMPORTANT ELECTION, nevertheless this IS the most significant election in our lifetime-which will impact collective bargaining.

Several guests echoed the undeniable importance of the upcoming election.

Joseph Moren, age 91, of Hibbing passed away Thursday, November 11, 2021 at Bayshore Residence in Duluth, MN.  Joe was born on October 2, 1930 to Joseph and Angela (Pedric) Moren in Gilbert.  Joe was raised in Gilbert and graduated from the Gilbert High School in 1948.  He attended Virginia/Eveleth Junior College, but before graduating, he was drafted into the Army during the Korean War and served in the Military Police in Bremerhaven, Germany.

After being discharged, Joe finished college at UMD, and then married Jean Kemp.  After several teaching positions in Wisconsin, Joe

NEA-RETIRED EXECUTIVE COUNCIL REPORT

The NEA-Retired Executive Council met face-to-face in the NEA Building May 3-5, 2022.  During these days-as the schedule permitted-there were greetings from the 3 NEA Executive Officers along with presentations dealing with legislation, upcoming elections, information detailing items in the upcoming Retired Annual Meeting, information from the NEA Center For Governance, etc.

Committee reports were presented by Council members:  Communications Newsletter Awards, the new Spirit of Membership Award, the Distinguished Service Award.  These Awards

This year’s 3rd Annual Joint Conference with ED MN-R and WEAC-R was held FACE-TO-FACE on November 16, 2021 at the Holiday Inn Lake Elmo, MN.

Approx 70 individuals attended.

A silent auction was held, $2,345.00 was raised for the NEA Fund for Children and Public Education; way to go RETIREES!!!

Special guest-Ronald Duff-from Wisconsin and newly elected to the NEA Executive Committee brought greetings.

When last I wrote about the Exec Council, it was in January, 2021. Presently the Council has 8 Committees: Membership, Communications, Legislative, Scholarship, Grants, PAC Fund Raising Events, Governance, and Elections. These Committees have ZOOMED throughout the year in order to develop strategies and information which can be useful to our members. Committee make-up is grassroots members from throughout the U.S. 

The Exec Council is a smaller version of the aforementioned committees. As of this writing, the Council is working to
