2014 Retired Annual Meeting

By Bobbie Margo

The 2014 Education Minnesota Retired Annual Meeting was held on Friday, April 25 at the Doubletree Hilton Hotel in Bloomington. There was a great breakfast provided and an equally great “Welcome” to the 66+ attendees from President Walt Munsterman. We started off with all of us introducing ourselves.

I personally always find this very helpful-gives me a chance to put faces to names and also names to geographic locations in the state.

Jodee Buhr presented an update on the 2014

The TRA board met April 9, 2014.

The pension fund is $19.74 B with an earning of about 13% for the year.

The internal auditing plan was adopted. This is important as it helps TRA actually find out of internal processes are working as designed. Problems are identified and corrections are put in place. This helps identify problems in a time frame that can actually be corrected. Issues include payroll reporting and service credit. Because of payroll confusion

2014 Legislative and Political Action Conference

If Education Minnesota Retired or Retired Educators Association of Minnesota (REAM) schedules a political conference, evidently the odds are good that there will be a snow storm.  The REAM sponsored conference was postponed once last year and then cancelled due to snow in May.  This year, 22 retirees braved a major snowstorm January 30, and were rewarded with very informative and interesting presentations related to the

Message From Mueller

By Bobbie Margo

Recently Education Minnesota Vice-President Paul Mueller spoke at the 2013

ED MN Retiree Fall Conference. Mueller reminded us that we need to do a

better job at recruiting members for Education Minnesota Retired. Every

year 3,000+ teachers retire; out of that number-on the average-200+

individuals join Education Minnesota Retired. Maintaining memberships in

professional education organizations keeps one connected, informed and

involved.

Our geographic neighbor (Wisconsin) had things happen a negative

way-in an instant-all labor rights/contract negotiations have
