Legislative/Political Action Conference


Members of Education Minnesota Retired and Ream participated in an annual Legislative/Political Action Conference on February 18.  The weather cooperated this year so members had an easy drive to the meeting.

2015 Fall Conference

The 2015 Education Minnesota Retired Fall Conference was held September 14-16 at "Chase on the

Lake" in Walker, MN.  The conference opened on Monday evening with a "Welcome" by V-P Julie

Jagusch (President Larry Koenck was absent due to illness). 

The 40+ attendees introduced

themselves and elaborated on personal activities

since retirement.  Author Bill Schrankler provided the

evening's entertainment with a power point

presentation detailing his most recent book "Shadows

of Time......Minnesota's Surviving (Train) Depots.”

Annual Meeting, September 23, 2015

 

Education Minnesota Retired sent twelve (12) delegates to the Minnesota State  Retirees Council

Meeting held on September 23, 2015 at the Sheet Metal Workers’ Hall.  Lois  Wendt was awarded the

President’s Leadership Award for her dedication and hard work for the Retiree Council, Education

Minnesota, League of Women Voters, DFL and many other groups.  Well deserved!

The 2015 Education Internationa World Congress

The 7th Education International World Congress was held in Ottawa, Ontario Canada in the Shaw Centre from July, 21-26, 2015.  Ottawa has a population of over 1.2 million and is on the banks of the Ottawa, Rideau, and Gatineau Rivers.  The city is the Capitol of Canada and is the home of the Government of Canada, Parliament, the Senate and the Supreme Court of Canada.  Ottawa is also rich in culture and in heritage with its many national museums, parklands, waterways, and historic architecture.

2015 Retired Annual Meeting

The 2015 Education Minnesota Retired Annual Meeting was held Friday, April 17 at the Sheet Metal Workers Union Hall in Maplewood. To start the morning, a great breakfast and a great“Welcome”were provided by President Larry Koenck to the 45+ attendees.

Kathy Micheletti, an Education Minnesota lobbyist, presented an update on the 2015 Legislative Session. There is a $1.8 billion surplus. The Governor's agenda is very education oriented; and surveys all across the State show that people are willing and favorable to spending money on education. Nevertheless

NEA Retired Organizing Conference

This year's NEA Retired Organizing Conference was held at the Sheraton Atlanta from March 24-26, 2015. Atlanta is in the state of Georgia and is home to Delta Airlines, Coca Cola, and the Ebenezer Baptist Church

where Martin Luther King Jr. preached.

Four Education Minnesota Retired members (and Paul Mueller) attended this year's conference: Julie Jagusch, Larry Koenck, Bobbie Margo, and Judy Rohde; we were part of 275+ attendees.

Education Minnesota Retired Fall Conference 2014

 

 

Popular demand brought back Ruttger’s Bay Lake Lodge as the location for the Education Minnesota Fall Conference. This conference has a fantastic combination of having sessions that educate on important topics to retirees, speakers that entertain members, and time for individuals to gather in small groups to talk to each other and learn from each other.
